Luke 5:27-32
One day, Jesus saw a tax-collector named Levi working in his tax office. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” And then Levi left everything and began to follow Jesus. Simon Peter will later say, “We have left our homes to follow you” (18:28). Levi, though, keeps his house, along with enough resources to host a banquet for a large crowd in Jesus’ honor (5:29). Following Jesus does not always mean you have to leave, or sell, your home.
Jesus does call all sinners to repent. And Jesus does call his disciples to follow him. But your sins may not be the same as my sins, and my path of discipleship may be different from yours. In this first week of Lent, ask yourself: what sins keep me from following Jesus? Then repent from your sins, ask for forgiveness, and thank God for his grace. And use this Lenten season to listen for what Jesus wants you to do - or stop doing - as you follow him.
