John 10:31-42

Friends, in today’s Gospel reading, we find once again that the Jews are almost going to stone Jesus because of his blasphemous claim that he is God.  Jesus says that the miraculous works he performed prove that he and the Father are one.

Even when they witness Jesus’ works of grace, his adversaries cannot accept that Jesus is who he claims to be.  Such is the extent of how deeply ingrained their image of God is.  What is God like?  What does God approve and disapprove?  How does God relate to creation? To us?

These opposing Jews condemned Jesus because he did not fit their particular image of God.  What is the image of God that I have?  Have I wrongly condemned someone in the name of my image of God?
