Luke 11:29-32

In today’s reading, the crowds press Jesus to prove that he is from God, despite his miracles of healing, casting out of evil spirits, and feeding of five thousand that he had already done.  Jesus indicts the crowd, declaring them an evil generation because of their unbelief.  Even the foreign Queen of Sheba praised the Lord on account of Solomon, and the perverse city of Nineveh repented because of Jonah’s preaching.  But when this crowd encounters Jesus – one who is greater than Solomon and Jonah, they still do not see that he is of God.  Perhaps they know that if they acknowledged Jesus as of God, they would no longer have control.

How well do we recognize God in our lives?  Do we see and acknowledge the beauty and glory of God’s grace and love?  Do we accept words of wisdom and hard truths that help us be better people?  Or do our pride and arrogance blind us from seeing the hand of Jesus, and deafen us from hearing the voice of Jesus?
