John 4:43-54

In this Bible passage Jesus has returned to Cana where he had performed his first recorded miracle: turning water into wine!  News of this miracle must have traveled far and wide.  Then a royal official journeys nearly 20 miles from Capernaum to Cana to beg Jesus to heal his dying son.  Various interpretations claim the royal official is either a Gentile or a Jew who may have been serving in Herod’s court.  Yes, the same Herod who beheaded John the Baptist and would play a pivotal role in Jesus’ execution.

Imagine serving someone who vehemently hated those who represent this new way of living and loving.  I would think the official may have been concerned about his own standing in the court if it were known that he sought Jesus’ assistance.  But this royal official so loved his son that his faith led him to Jesus and then when Jesus reassures him that his son will live, the official believes Jesus and goes home!

Is my own faith deep enough to believe in Jesus’ healing power?
