Matthew 7:7-10

Jesus says that everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who searches, finds. If you knock on the door, guess what? It will be opened. We need only ask, search, knock! I can barely get through the start of this passage without my (over)active brain invading with thoughts of, “yeah, but what about…?” Yet Jesus catches me right there. “Is there anyone among you,” he asks, “who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone?” Of course not! As a parent, I leapt to meet my child’s needs, especially in the needy newness of his life. Doesn’t God love me this much. More, in fact?

Ponder today: what are you afraid of asking? What searches do you think are too small, too big, too much for God? Like a mother speeding to her crying child, God is there for you. If we have faith, the door will be opened for us. We need only to knock.

  1. This is such a lovely thought. So many times I wonder why things don't turn out the way I wanted, just to find out later that God had something much better in mind for me.
